KANISHKA’S HANDLOOMS
Our dedicated handloom weaving communities were set up in the early 1980’s, first in the eastern state of Orissa and thereafter in central India, moving quickly to the rich weaving traditions in south eastern and southern clusters of weavers. Over the decades we have built our own micro-financing system where Kanishka’s is invested in sericulture, yarn making and eventually weaving of our sarees. At every step of the process, only hand-made, sustainable techniques are followed with a high degree of adherence to traditional methods. In some cases our looms are the only last remaining ones pursuing these age-old techniques. Kanishka’s handlooms are truly one of a kind, and stand for the dignity of handloom weavers that our founders consistently worked for.
